I am back for 2015, firstly with a Thailand makeup haul. As many of you know I spent the first three weeks of the year exploring three different cities in Thailand – and of course I did some shopping! Thailand is lucky to host some amazingly huge malls as well as a lot of makeup filled pharmacies and Sephora! I managed to get a few good products and quite a few things off my makeup wish list while I was there. It was so interesting looking at the different brands and products which haven’t made it to NZ shores yet. I also discovered my new favourite makeup shop… can anyone guess what it is?! So, where have I been? I promise all will be answered today, in this very post! But firstly hello everyone! I’ve missed you and I’ve missed blogging, however it has been harder than I thought it would be getting back into normal life and ‘reality’. 2015 has started off with adventure and masses of positivity for me.
Many of you know I spent the first three weeks in Thailand (AMAZING), now I am settling back into work and focusing on my friends, my babe and achieving some personal goals I have floating around in my mind. I’m turning 25 this year and I’ll be completely honest, it’s a bit scary. It seems like a strange in-between, not young, not old just in that grey area (but thank god not actually grey yet). Am I exaggerating and being a total mid-twenties Gen Y right now? Probably, but who cares!
Anyways, back to my travels, Thailand was incredible. It was the perfect mix of new experiences, culture and relaxation.
Firstly we arrived in Bangkok and Continue reading
A little makeup tag never hurt anyone, so today I am sharing with you my makeup story tag. I spotted this on A beautiful Life by Johanna Perez and really liked how it let me get to know her a bit even though it was my first time on her site! Isn’t it cool how makeup and beauty tags make their way around the world?!
♥ 1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I think around 12 or 13 years old is when I started wearing makeup. I was at intermediate and it was when we were all starting to try out new things with clothes and makeup. I also had super bad skin so I was looking for ways to cover that up. Before that age it was all Lip Smackers and body glitter gel.
2. How did you get into makeup?
I’ve always been a girly girl and my mum wore makeup so it was something I was interested in from a young age. My Nanna would always say to my mum ‘get your face on!’ when they were going out somewhere. I started taken makeup a bit more seriously when my best friend Kahlia got really into it at one stage. She had all these amazing brands and products I had never heard of before, and makeup brushes! Proper brushes! Continue reading
This is a quick post to say thank you and Merry Christmas to all of my fabulous readers! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone. So many exciting things have happened this year and it’s been cool to be able to share the journey with some of you. This blog started officially in February this year, I got my little baby Yeezus in June, I’ve made lots of new friends, have almost completed my full teaching registration, went sugar free for two whole months, attended a ridiculous amount of concerts and events and now I am getting ready to jet off to Thailand on the 1st of Jan.
Thanks so much for all your support, I can’t wait to keep blogging in 2015!
Over the next few weeks things at Laura Loves Beauty Blog will be a tiny bit different. There will be no more posts this week and just one next week on Monday about tips and tricks to make your makeup last all night long while partying it up on New Years Eve. Then for the month of January there will be just two posts a week on Tuesdays and Fridays (rather than the usual three a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday) until I’m back in Auckland.
If you would like to stay updated on my big adventure to three different cities in Thailand then make sure you are following me on Twitter at @LA_Curwood and Instagram @lauralovesbeautyblog – of course I’ll be blogging about my trip and all the shopping I did as soon as I’m back.
Happy Holidays! Be safe and have fun!!!
Grey hair seems to be everywhere at the moment, I love it but I wondered, can I pull it off??! Before now it seemed to be a colour that you wouldn’t willingly dye your hair to be. Blonde, yes. Red, stunning. Purple, trendy, Green tips, so Kylie Jenner! But grey…. However it seems that going grey isn’t just for the ladies down at the local bridge club or RSA anymore!
I first spotted one of my favorite youtubers Samatha from Batalash rocking the ashy grey hair look. She looks stunning with it, but the thing is, she always looks stunning! I started to think about making a change from blonde to a grey more and more, but I couldn’t help thinking if it was just that I like the colour on her or whether I actually really liked the colour and would like it on myself. Has anyone else had that problem? Continue reading
Can you even believe that it is now December? I knew it was coming soon and I knew Christmas was close, but now the reality of it is really starting to hit me. I have this handy Countdown app on my phone that has been helping keep track of how much longer I have until a few important dates. Right now, drafting this post up on the 30th of November I have 8 days until I finish work for the year, there’s 24 days until Christmas and 31 days until I leave for Thailand. That countdown has got me through some long work days this month, but now the end is near! I have managed to start my Xmas shopping, have you? And I also have had some busy weekends at some awesome Auckland events. Continue reading
It isn’t a typical Kiwi summer without some kind of road trip! Whether you’re heading home to catch up with family, having a girls getaway or off to a New Years festival having the essentials always ensures that your road trip isn’t a bumpy ride. There are certain things I take with me no matter where I’m going or what the occasion is during summer. If you read number 1 of my Summer Survival Series (check it out here if you missed it!) you’ll already know that I am planning to head off on a roadie down to Whakatane these holidays before I set off to Thailand. I’ve thrown together a list of totally essential items to take with me on my road trip – my holiday companion Oli at reallifeauckland.com has also compiled his road trip essentials. So together I think we have everything covered! Continue reading
Since summer is creeping around the corner – see, up there! Where I’m pointing in the distance! So I’ve decided to do a bit of a summer mini series. The plan is a post a week leading up to summer with a different focus each time. Today, I want to share with you my plans for the summer break! I’d love to know what you are all getting up to, whether you are having a big family Christmas, spending all your time off at the beach or heading to somewhere amazing for New Years. For me, my break starts in two and a bit weeks!
I am lucky to be in a position to get school holidays off, my last official day of work is the 9th of December and it is going to be all go from there! My time leading up to Christmas will hopefully be a mixture of preparation and relaxation. I’ll need to get my Christmas shopping done and also get organised for my big trip (more about that below!). But I also want to spend as much time as possible at the beach, catching up with friends and heading out to events – who else is going to Ragamuffin and Katy Perry? Continue reading
October is when I start really looking at plans for the end of the year. I can tell you right now that at this exact moment I have 41 days until I finish work officially for the year, there’s 58 days till Christmas and then 65 days until my Thailand trip! It’s been strange getting use to the lighter evenings these last few weeks, but I have really enjoyed it because I have had quite a few late nights at work and it has been nice not to be getting home in the pitch black. My skin and allergies are still playing up, so again this month I have been in and out of the doctors and haven’t been able to wear much makeup either. Despite that and working A LOT, I have managed to have a few fun times this month and have successfully been sugar free for the whole month!! Woo hoo!! Continue reading
September is always a really big month for me. Spring sets in, I have my birthday and then my best friends a week later and also school holidays always hit just at the end of the month. The start of spring reminds me that summer isn’t too far away either and that it’s time to come out of winter hibernation! I’ve had a pretty busy month with lots of dinners out and also had to deal with being sick for half of the month and not being able to wear makeup =( but now the days are sunnier and longer it’s onwards and upwards!
