A little makeup tag never hurt anyone, so today I am sharing with you my makeup story tag. I spotted this on A beautiful Life by Johanna Perez and really liked how it let me get to know her a bit even though it was my first time on her site! Isn’t it cool how makeup and beauty tags make their way around the world?!
♥ 1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I think around 12 or 13 years old is when I started wearing makeup. I was at intermediate and it was when we were all starting to try out new things with clothes and makeup. I also had super bad skin so I was looking for ways to cover that up. Before that age it was all Lip Smackers and body glitter gel.
2. How did you get into makeup?
I’ve always been a girly girl and my mum wore makeup so it was something I was interested in from a young age. My Nanna would always say to my mum ‘get your face on!’ when they were going out somewhere. I started taken makeup a bit more seriously when my best friend Kahlia got really into it at one stage. She had all these amazing brands and products I had never heard of before, and makeup brushes! Proper brushes!
3. What are some of your favorite brands?
I have heaps! MAC, Anastasia Beverly Hills for brow products, Maybelline, Urban Decay, E.L.F, Lush are some of my top ones.
4. What does makeup mean to you?
Makeup to me is a hobby, a love, an item to collect, a way to enhance my features, a way to hide certain features, a form of art.
5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Foundation/BB Cream, mascara, bronzer and lip balm.
6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
The fact that a little tube of something has the power to transform so much. Especially the way that makeup can enhance confidence.
7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs. high end makeup?
I feel like it really doesn’t matter what the brand is, whether it is drugstore or high end as long as it works well for you. Makeup shouldn’t be all about the brand or company, I chose products based on their ingredients and how well they work on my skin as well as recommendations from other people. If you saw my makeup table you’d see a complete mixture of drugstore and high end. I definitely don’t believe in paying a ridiculous price for something when there’s a perfect dupe that’s 75% of the price and just as good.
8. What is one tip of advice you can give a beginner?
To keep on practicing and don’t forget that it’s only makeup. If you make a mistake you can just wipe it off and try again!
9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
That whole 90’s super dark lip liner along with nude lips – so strange and makes absolutely no sense.
10. What do you think about the beauty community on Youtube?
I love that there is one place which holds so much information and advice in regards to beauty. Seriously, how cool is it that we can see a makeup look, google some more pictures of it, then find a tutorial on Youtube and be able to do it ourselves. One thing I really don’t like is the level of negativity people seems to think it’s okay to share on other peoples work. It’s totally fine if you watch a video and not like it, just move on rather than posting a hurtful bullying comment.
One piece of advice I would give in regards to the online beauty community (including blogs) is to take everything with a pinch of salt – my holy grail primer might be something which you would send to hell, everything works differently for different people. I haven’t joined the Youtube community for my own reasons…. yet (videos seems scary and I don’t have the right gear), but I am seriously considering it and would actually quite like to try out doing a vlog with my bf Oli at Reallifeauckland.com
I hope you enjoyed hearing a little bit about my makeup story! I tag Lena from Lenalovesbeauty.com and Sophie from nanawintour.com – because I’d love to know more about their makeup stories. If you have done this tag before, share it below!
