On a whim I recently bought the Maybelline Master Fix Setting Powder, a new Maybelline product which is said to set and perfect. It’s a translucent powder which can be dusted lightly on top of your makeup to set your foundation. As with most setting powders, this product is mattifying to get rid of excess shine. Products which give my face a matte finish and keep the afternoon shiny disco ball face away are part of my daily makeup routine, so I’ve tried a fair few setting powders! I decided to review the Maybelline Master Fix Setting Powder against the rest.
In my opinion, the two most important aspects of a setting powder is the texture and whether it is actually translucent on the skin. There’s nothing worse than a thick powder which feels gritty or ending up with a visible white powdery look all over your face. The Master Fix Powder is very finely milled which is exactly what I prefer as it means the product buffs into the skin easily and doesn’t feel powdery on. It is also actually translucent on the skin and doesn’t discolour my foundation at all. There’s no flashback when taking photos with the powder on and it does a really decent job of keeping the shine away. I start to notice a bit of shine creeping through at about 3.30pm with no touch ups during the day.
The packaging is pretty simple and nothing to be totally wowed or disappointed about. The lid screws on pretty tightly which is important to avoid getting suspicious looking white powder all through your handbag. I wish someone would invent a better kind of packaging for setting powder, so that if you open it after its been a little shaken up you don’t get a powder cloud and end up wasting product. But until then the typical setting powder in a pottle with a few holes for it to sift through will have to do.
