Today I’m sharing my top beauty products of 2016! 2016 was a big year for beauty, there was sandbagging, strobing, spray on nail polish, lipsticks with real flowers inside them and who can mention 2016 beauty trends without giving Kylie and her Lip Kits a wink? I tried out quite a lot of new products and brands in 2016, but reviewing my favourites is quite interesting as I can see I have some ultimate favourites which may never change! However, I am very open to finding new favourite products in 2017! This is part 1 featuring mainly face and base products.
♥ Top BB Cream: Maybelline Super BB
This BB Cream has the most incredible coverage while feeling light on the skin. It’s easy to apply with fingers, brushes or a Beauty Blender and I love how it includes different ingredients to help my skin while I’m wearing it. The worst thing about it is that it seems to only be available in some parts of Asia, which means I can’t bare to throw out my empty tube! You can read my full review on it, here.
♥ Top Foundation: MAC Pro Longwear
No matter how many foundations I try, I always end up back to using this one. The high coverage with a flawless finish is perfect for a big night out. I also love how the foundation really stays put no matter what you end up getting up to. I find the best way to apply this product is by using a Beauty Blender and I also don’t wait too long before applying concealer on top as it can ‘set’ quite fast at times. I love that I can apply this foundation and then know I don’t need to worry about it at all, until I want to take it off. I use the shade NW15.
♥ Top Bronzer/Contour: Hoola by Benefit Cosmetics
This product is talked about online a lot as being a great contour shade for those with lighter skin and I 100% agree. It’s a great shade which doesn’t go orangey and is easy to work with and blend, whether you are going for a subtle glow or really working it into your skin at certain points for a chiselled contour. I also find that the product lasts a really long time and the brush which comes with it isn’t too bad either.
♥ Top Highlighter: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade
I first picked up this Skinfinish during my first ever trip to Bangkok, I was on a makeup buying rampage and was really excited to see what all the hype was about with these highlighters. I love how soft and beautiful Lightscapade is and also how it can be used for a light shimmer or more of a full on glow. Although like most shimmer products it can transfer a little (for example if I touch my face i’ll have a little shimmer left on my hand) but it will still last the entire day. The powder lasts a long time before you start to hit pan and is just so damn pretty!
♥ Top Powder: Australis Matte Maker
The Australis Matte Maker is very comparable to the MAC Studio Fix Powder. It is easy to apply and buff into the skin and helps keep oil away without looking too matte or appearing cakey. It’s also a very easy to find powder and affordable. I made the switch from Studio Fix to this after a few recommendations and don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon. I’ve found that setting my makeup on my chin with this powder also helps stop lipstick from staining that under my bottom lip area when I’ve been eating.
Were any of these products in your favourites for 2016? I’m quite keen to try out a new foundation so I’d love to know what your favourite foundation was of the year, I’m currently thinking about trying Born This Way by Too Faced or maybe a Nars product.
